In an interesting use of an actual tripod, Juan wrote in to tell us about his Camelbak third person mount for a GoPro camera.
Although pictured in a home and office setting, this mount is meant primarily to record his bike rides. Needed for this build was a Camelbak Lobo (may be an older style) hydration system, and a cheap tripod by Vivitar. Juan actually took one of the feet off of the tripod and tapped it with a 1/4 – 20 wing screw to form the camera mounting surface. One could always “reinforce” the threads by locking things down with super glue it it was never going to be removed.
