We’ve featured several camera slider builds here, and I’ve even built one myself. However, nothing I’ve seen so far compares to this robotic camera dolly system built with Servocity’s Actobotics parts.
This truly robotic camera mount features an Arduino Microprocessor (Amazon) with a small touch screen to allow the user to adjust the dolly’s behavior. The contraption can pan and tilt, but is also capable of rolling on the rails underneath. An encoder from Lynxmotion is used to precisely position the assembly when these wheels are utilized.
Check out the video below to see how well this excellent “roboslider” works:
I’ve gotten parts from Servocity, and they’ve even sponsored some of my projects, so I was really pleased to see something else cool made with them. On the other hand, it looks like the bar for cool creations (and great video production) has really been raised on this one. I’ll have to come up with some excellent new ideas!
If you like the idea of a moving camera for time-lapses, but want to start a “little” smaller, why not check out this GoPro Egg Timer panning device. It doesn’t have all the features of this “roboslide,” but it might actually fit in your camera bag!
